Principal’s Welcome
Leland & Gray High School’s Program of Studies for the 2009-2010 School Year is designed to assist our students and parents in making knowledgeable decisions while selecting courses for the upcoming school year. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the selection of particular courses, please be sure to contact our School Counselors, Janis Broom and Melanie Zwolinski.

The course selection in this booklet is designed to meet the State of Vermont’s Educational Standards and to provide optimal opportunities for all learners. Activities designed for the implementation of Navigation 101 have been carried out during advisories this school year. Whether the student is certain about her/his post high school career goals or is uncertain about what lies ahead, Navigation 101 should be used as a tool for course selection for a well thought out and cohesive high school experience. The Program of Studies’ Four Year Schedule Planner is an excellent tool to use as you chart the path for your educational journey. Please be mindful of graduation requirements as well as your focus and interest.

Our school budget for the upcoming school year is fiscally responsible, but more importantly its impact on our Program of Studies should be a positive one. In addition to courses we are currently offering, two new courses have been added to the program. Astronomy/Geology will be offered by the science department and Chinese Studies will be offered by our Social Studies department. Students are encouraged to maximize the benefits of block scheduling by taking as many as four courses each semester.

Finally, a public school’s most important function is to enable its students to become effective and productive citizens and at Leland & Gray we are focused on providing this opportunity for all students. Please be sure to contact any of us, if we might be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Sikander Rashid
